I came across this book, "The no asshole rule" it talks about why we should not have assholes in the workplace and how they are a negative influence. I, on the other hand think it is absolutely necessary to hire assholes, the meanest kind, because they tend to get the best out of people around them, their peers.
The only exception is to people with absolute power, because a asshole with absolute power will spoil the whole workplace, by continually demeaning and humiliating his subordinates. In this way it makes sense to have more women at the positions of power, they tend to more considerate and understanding.
But again, do we want wimps who cant stand up for themselves? No, we don't, we need the alpha males who will get the job done. Sounds so stupid, does it not. On the one hand we need considerate people, on the other hand we need the work done no matter what. Do such people actually exist in today's world? I think so, it is just to take each part subjectively and come to the best way to handle it.
